Project CzechPolar (2010 – 2015)

In 2010, a 6-year-lasting project CzechPolar (LM2010009): "Czech Polar Stations: Construction and operational costs" was funded by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The project consists of two independent parts and two principal institutions are involved: Masaryk University (Brno) and South Bohemian University (České Budějovice). The aim of the project is to support development of Antarctic station J. G. Mendel located on James Ross Island (MU responsibility), and establish and develop Czech research station at Svalbard (SBU responsibility). The project also consider the exploitation of CESNET network and establishment of laboratory of Extreme Environmets Life (EEL) in Brno. Both the above-mentioned universities perform educational schemes oriented to science in polar regions.
